monkgarron 2010 ebbesborne wake • wiltshire
nsa were commissioned to design a house on the rural site of an existing bungalow in the ebbesbourne valley where the setting and context play views and space in three directions. Constructed from locally sourced green sandstone with internal timber frame, the project aimed to embody carbon, create design with high insulation levels, natural ventilation and attention to detail to capture natural light and meet Code 4 levels for this build. Future pv arrays and connection to ground source heating will allow the house to claim excellent environmental credentials. The ‘Catherine Wheel’ footprint, with three wings emanating from a circular drum central entrance/ stair hall, enables the house to respond to the many site-specific attractions with a rational plan that formalises the position of each accommodation function and relate to sunny south west/private garden looking down between hills beyond new stables and an oak-framed/clad outbuilding to distant landscape
