contemporary designs for 5 new apartments on the site of an existing cottage (now demolished) was granted permission in 2005 and are about to enter the construction phase. The brief to provide imaginative and characteristically modern space has been introduced to a building that by necessity has needed to cope with difficult site shape and restrictions and a location close to the side of the busy frome road at rush hill. Full consideration was given to the potential of the quiet sides of the site to deliver quality east, south and west sun/light, with opportunities for pv arrays and solar thermal devices on the 25°south east/west facing ‘internal’ monopitch roofs. The bathstone and timber clad elevations are evocative of other contemporary development in this part of bath and underscore this approach
